Our answer is the Bamboo Strand Board (BSB) — a next-generation engineered panel that outperforms traditional timber Oriented Strand Board (OSB) while dramatically reducing the environmental footprint of construction projects around the world.

Why Bamboo?

Bamboo is one of the most remarkable natural resources on Earth. It is the fastest-growing plant in the world, reaching full maturity in just 5 to 7 years, compared to the 15 to 25 years required for the softwoods traditionally used in construction. This rapid regeneration means that bamboo can be harvested continuously without the long wait times and deforestation risks associated with conventional timber.

Beyond its growth rate, bamboo sequesters approximately 340% more carbon dioxide than a comparable area of typical forest. By choosing bamboo as our primary material, we are not simply reducing harm — we are actively contributing to carbon capture at scale. Every panel of BSB that replaces a traditional timber OSB panel represents a meaningful step toward a healthier climate.

Reducing Reliance on Traditional Timber

The global construction industry is one of the largest consumers of timber in the world. The demand for conventional OSB and other wood-based panels puts enormous pressure on forests that take decades to recover. Panda Industries is committed to relieving that pressure by providing a superior alternative that architects, builders, and homeowners can confidently choose — not as a compromise, but as an upgrade.

BSB is stronger, more durable, and more workable than traditional timber OSB. It can be nailed or screwed without splitting, meets PS-2 grade standards for roof, wall, and subfloor sheathing, and is currently undergoing ICC-ES certification to become fully building code compliant. Sustainability and performance are not trade-offs at Panda Industries — they go hand in hand.

Our proprietary cross-hatched bamboo strand technology is patent-filed in 14 countries and unions. This patented process is what allows BSB to achieve its exceptional structural properties while maximizing the environmental advantages of bamboo.
